Body Wall of Earthworm

  • Body wall is the protective cover of the body and also helps in respiration and movements
  • Body wall is composed of four layers
    1. Cuticle: Outermost, thin, non-cellular and made up of collagen fibre
    2. Epidermis: Made up of columnar epithelium, It contain secretory glands cells and sensory cells
    3. Muscular layer: Circular and longitudinal. These help in movement
    4. Coelom: filled with alkaline whitish fluid, It consists of water, salts, proteins and granulocyte
  • Functions of body wall
    • Maintains the shape of the body
    • Protects the body from mechanical injuries
    • Body wall provides protection from harmful germs
