    Obelia Characteristics

    • They are marine animal and belong to the Hydrozoa class.
    • They are colonial organism, meaning it consists of multiple individuals called polyps connected to each other.
    • The body of Obelia is cylindrical in shape and can grow up to several centimeters in length.
    • The structure of its body is transparent and gelatinous in nature.
    • Obelia polyps have a tubular structure with a mouth surrounded by tentacles used for feeding.
    • In tentacles of Obelia, have stinging cells called nematocysts, which are used to capture prey.
    • Obelia colonies are usually found attached to rocks or other kinds of substrates.
    • These organisms use their tentacles to filter smaller organisms and organic particles out of the water.
    • They reproduces both sexually and asexually. Asexual reproduction occurs through budding, where new polyps grow from the parent polyp.
    • They are reproduce sexually, Obelia releases its eggs and sperm into the water, resulting in the formation of larvae that eventually settle and develop into new polyps.
